Santa’s Workshop

Santa’s procrastinating elves were at it hard last night.

I can’t wait to post pictures of the things that we the elves worked on last night, but it will have to wait!

State Stitch from One Crafty Dame

September 7th, 2012 by

Retro mushroom shakers from a friend one day, and a custom Pennsylvania state stitch from another friend the next- I should have an anniversary every day!

PA stitch by One Crafty Dame

How adorable is that?

One Crafty Dame really is the craftiest, check out her blog here.

Obviously it is getting added to my gallery wall, but where?? I could add it right next to WV String Art in a previously uninhabited spot, but 2 state art thingys right next to each other? Shouldn’t I spread out my states a little?

or I could replace those damn oval frames that I dislike so much:

The idea for those oval frames was great, but I did a shoddy job painting them and then both the glass panes broke along the way. And I don’t like the way the chartreuse and plum colors look with the sepia pictures inside of them. I’ve been meaning to replace them as soon as something better came along, and state stitch is way better BUT I don’t like the void created by the circle in between the 2 rectangular frames. Ideally I would shift the state stitch over towards the right of that space and put something on the left, but I don’t possess anything else at this moment  to put in there so. . . .

I dunno, what do you think?

Lamp Fixer-Upper

August 6th, 2012 by

Design community, I need your help! I bought this lamp at a thrift store a few years ago with the intention of fixing it up and for the life of me, I can’t think of what the heck I should do to it.

It’s a bad picture, but this lamp is a patchwork of bumpy tarnished gold/brass rectangles and smooth orange & marigold rectangles. The base is wooden. It also comes sans lamp shade, so I’d have to make one of them as well. And before you respond saying, ‘hey let the colors of your room to drive the styling,’ let me tell you that I have no use for this guy- my house is bursting at the seams with crazy vintage lamps already. I was thinking of fixing it up and selling it. Anyway, any of your suggestions would be great. Nothing could be uglier than how it is currently.
